KING'S BASEBALL TEAM

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College baseball team wrapped up its Florida spring break trip with a double-header loss to powerful Carthage College of Wisconsin Saturday in Port Charlotte.

Carthage, which was 34-11 and played in the NCAA Division III College World Series last year, won the first game 6-1 while taking the nightcap 11-2

In the opener, Caleb Calarco, Matt Livoy, Josh Faust and Rob Medlock posted the only base hits for King's. Calarco scored the only Monarch run in the fourth inning when Calarco single and later scored form third on an infield ground out RBI off the bat of Jeremy Faust.

Calarco took the pitching loss, allowing 11 hits and six earned runs while striking out three batters in six innings of work.

In the nightcap, King's (4-6) managed just three hits, all singles, by Calarco Jeremy Faust, and J.R. Graver. Jon Venarchick and Calarco scored a run each in the sixth innings off of sacrifice flies by Nick Sorino and Mike Venarchick.

Gary Mazur took the loss, allowing 10 earned runs in three innings.
