KING'S BASEBALL SPLITS OPENING TWIN BILL
PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA -- The King's College baseball team opened the 2006
season by splitting a doubleheader with Wittenberg College of Ohio at
the Port Charlotte Invitational, Port Charlotte Fla.
King's dropped the first game to Wittenberg 10-9, but rebounded to take
the nightcap 7-5.
In the opener, Rob Medlock led the way offensively by going 3-for-4 with
a double and two RBI. Vince Budzyn went 2-for-2 with a triple and scored
two runs while Caleb Calarco was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs, and an
RBI. Matt Colgan was 2-for-4 while Jeremy Faust was 2-for-5 with a
double. J.T. Levonick took the pitching loss in relief.
In the nightcap, Matt Livoy was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Budzyn, Mike Venarchick, and Jeff Wells were both 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Medlock was 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI while also earning the
pitching victory, tossing five innings and allowing seven hits and five
runs. Freshman Ryan Derry picked up his first collegiate save by
throwing two innings of one-hit relief.
