KEYSTONE BREAKS OPEN SCORELESS GAMES IN FIFTH TO POST 10-0 WIN OVER KING'S IN ECAC TOURNAMENT

WASHINGTON --  Top-seeded Keystone College broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the fifth inning, then added six more in the seventh to post a 10- victory over fourth-seeded King's College in the opening round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships at Washington & Jefferson College, Washington, Pa.

After King's failed to score in the top half of the fourth inning, Keystone struck first when David Adamshick hit a one-out double , followed by a single from Jon Papada. After Tim Schemel walked to load the bases, Deken Kline followed with an RBI single. Brent Bowman then walked to force in Papada.  Schemel would then score on a fielder's choice before Scott Grimes delivered a two-run single to give the Giants a 4-0 lead.

Keystone would put the game away with a six-run seventh frame, keyed by a two-run single from Neal Smith, followed by a grand slam home run off the bat of Mike Leedock.

Grimes led Keystone (31-11) with a 3-for-3 showing and two RBI while Leedock was 2-for-4 with four RBI. Schemel and Kline added two hits each for the Giants, who posted 12 hits on the day. Jeremy Pierson went the4 distance for Keystone, allowing four hits while striking out 11 batters.

King's (24-14), which played the game with its top two hitters Jeff Wells and Rob Medlock, who were unable to make the trip, were led by Josh Faust who went 2-for-2. Jeremy Faust and Vince Budzyn posted the Monarchs other two hits. Paul Giovannoli took the loss, allowing nine runs in six and one-thirds innings, walking five and striking out one batter.
