KING'S BASEBALL EARNS ECAC TOURNAMENT BERTH
(Monarchs to face top-seeded Keystone at W&J)
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College baseball team has been selected to
participate in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southern Region
Tournament slated for Friday at Washington & Jefferson College,
Washington, Pa.
King's (24-14), which has set a school record for single-season wins, is
seeded fourth in the field of four teams and will face top-seeded
Keystone (30-11) in the first game Friday at 9:00 a.m.
The other first-round pairing between second-seeded host Washington &
Jefferson (31-14) and third-seeded Penn State Behrend (27-16) is set for
12:00 noon.
The two winners will then play at 3:00 p.m. for the ECAC Southern Region
title.
The Monarchs, under the direction of third-year coach Jerry Greeley,
finished in second-place in the Freedom Conference regular-season
standings and were third in the Freedom Conference Tournament.
Washington & Jefferson narrowly missed an NCAA tournament berth after
finishing in second place in the President's Athletic Conference
Tournament after falling to Westminster College by a 5-3 count.
Penn State Behrend dropped a 9-4 decision to Pitt-Bradford in the
championship game of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference to
also miss out on an NCAA national tournament berth.
