FOUR MONARCHS NAMED TO FREEDOM ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
WILKES-BARRE -- Four members of the King's College baseball team have
been named to the 2005 All-Freedom Conference squad, the Middle Atlantic
Conference Office announced Wednesday.
Junior Rob Medlock (Philadelphia/Roman Catholic) was named to the
first team as the designated hitter, while sophomore pitcher Paul
Giovannoli (Stroudsburg/Stroudsburg), senior pitcher Kyle Ehlis
(Dallas/Dallas), and freshman outfielder Matt Livoy (Drexel
Hill/Upper Darby) were second-team choices.
The foursome helped lead King's baseball team to a single-season victory
record as the Monarchs finished 24-14 and reached the Freedom Conference
playoffs for the second straight year. King's finished second in the
regular-season Freedom Conference standings.
Medlock batted .366 (37-101) with eight doubles, two home runs, and 23
RBI while scoring 17 runs on the year. In 18 conference games, Medlock
batted .358 (20-57) with five doubles and 13 RBI.
Giovannoli enjoyed a banner sophomore season after earning Freedom
Conference "Rookie of the Year" honors as a freshman. The 6-3
right-hander was 7-1 with one save, including a 2.50 earned run average
with 51 strikeouts in 68.1 innings. In league games, he went 4-1 with
his lone loss coming to eventual conference champion DeSales.
Ehlis earned a spot on the second team as a relief pitcher after going
4-2 with one save, including a 5.36 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 40.1
innings. Ehlis was 2-1 with a save in Freedom Conference games.
Livoy was solid as a rookie, batting .338 (45-133) with 11 doubles,
three triples, two home runs, and 27 RBI while scoring 32 runs. Livoy
led the team in doubles and RBI while ranking second in base hits
