KING'S BASEBALL SPLITS WITH DEL-VALLEY

The King's College baseball team pushed across seven runs in the third inning to post a 9-5 victory in the second game of a doubleheader to salvage a split with visiting Delaware Valley College Saturday at Betzler Fields.

After dropping the first game 11-3, the Monarchs took a 1-0 lead in the nightcap, then exploded for seven runs in the third to build an 8-0 lead.

King's scored its first run when Jason Siebert doubled and scored on an RBI single from Jeremy Faust. In the third inning, Josh Faust ignited King's charge with a two-run double. Dan Buckley and Jason Seibert added run-scoring singles, while Matt Livoy drove in a run on an infield grounder out.

Kevin Wells was 3-for-4 and scored a pair of runs while Buckley was also 3-for-4. Siebert went 2-for-3 with two runs while Josh Faust was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Calab Calarco was 1-for-3 with two RBI to pace the Monarch attack. Freshman pitcher Joe Jenkins earned the win, lasting 5.0 innings while allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out five batters.

Delaware Valley was led by Sean Meister who was 4-for-4 with an RBI. Starter Mick Bigwood took the loss, allowing eight runs on eight hits while walking three batters.

In the opener, King's took a 2-0 lead after two innings on the strength of an RBI single from Rob Medlock in the first inning and a run scoring single from Siefert in the second. After Delaware Valley scored four in the third inning, the Monarchs drew to within 4-3 on an RBI double from Wells in the bottom half of the third.

But the Aggies would push across four runs in the fourth inning while adding three more runs in the seventh to seal the win.

King's, which had 12 hits in the opener but stranded nine runners, was led by Siebert who was 3-for-4 while Medlock was 2-for-4. Calarco was 2-for-3 while Buckley went 2-for-2 while concluding the doubleheader by going 5-for-6 on the day for the Monarchs.

Medlock took the pitching loss for King's, allowing eight runs, four which were earned, in three and one-third innings.

The Aggies were led in the opener by Travis Roth who was 3-for-3, including a three-run home run. Kyle Bobb was 2-for-3 and scored three runs. Zeke Boren picked up the complete-game win, scattering 12 hits over seven innings.

With the split, King's won two of the three games played between the teams in the season series
