KIEFFER TOSSES NO-HITTER, JENKINS
STRIKES OUT 16 AS KING'S BASEBALL SWEEPS BAPTIST BIBLE
WILKES-BARRE -- Branden Kieffer tossed
his first collegiate no-hitter, Joe Jenkins posted 16 strikeouts, and the
King's College baseball team pushed across 48 runs in two games as the
Monarchs routed visiting Baptist Bible College Monday at Betzler Fields.
King's, which won both games by
identical 24-0 scores, improved to 12-7 on the year while the Defenders,
who are in tier first season of varsity baseball, fell to 3-11.
In the opener, King's scored early and often with six runs in each of the
first two innings. A total of 18 different players came to bat for the
Monarchs in the opener as Nick Speakman led the way by going 3-for-3 with
a double, two runs and two RBI. Rob Medlock was 2-for-2 with three RBI
while Vince Budzyn was 3-for-3 with two triples, and three RBI. Josh Faust
had a double and scored three runs for the Monarchs. Jenkins struck out a
career-high 16 batters and allowed just one hit to Zach Dawson to pick up
the pitching victory.
In the nightcap, Kieffer struck out 10 batters and did not allow a base
hit The senior right-hander nearly pitched a perfect game as Dawson and
Jared Bier were the only Baptist Bible players to reach base, both on
sixth-inning walks.
Kings again emptied its bench as 22 different players came to bat during
the second game. Bill Reichmann was 2-for-2 with two triples and three RBI
while Adam Depko was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI. Matt Livoy was
2-for-3 with a double, triple, and two RBI Caleb Calarco chipped din with
a two-run single.
King's will travel top Bethlehem on Wednesday for a 3:30 pm contest with
Moravian College.
