DESALES POSTS 15-4 CONFERENCE WIN OVER KINGS

WILKES-BARRE -- The defending Freedom Conference champion DeSales University baseball team posted 20 base hits, handing host King's College a 15-4 setback Friday at Betzler Fields.

With the win, DeSales improved to 13-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play.  King's slipped to 10-5 and 4-3.

DeSales scored two runs in the first inning on a two-run single by Kyle Hoffman. King's scored a run in the bottom half of the inning when Matt Livoy doubled and later scored from third on a DeSales error. DeSales added two more runs in the third inning when Dan Frantantoro delivered a two-out, two-run single to push the lead to 4-2.

The Bulldogs would take advantage of three Monarch errors in the fifth inning, pushing across six runs to build a 10-1 advantage. DeSales capitalized on King's fourth error of the game in the seventh inning which led to five runs, four which were unearned, to extend the lead to 15-2.

The Monarchs added the final two runs of the game in the ninth on RBI singles from Joe Determan and Matt Livoy.

Livoy led the Monarchs with a 3-for-4 effort and was the only player to manage more than one base hit.  King's sophomore hurler Paul Giovannoli (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing 10 runs, eight which were earned, in four and one-thirds innings.

Nolan Neiman was 5-for-5 and scored three runs while Kyle Hoffman went 3-for-5 with five RBI and scored three runs. Frantantoro was 4-for-5 with four RBI and scored two runs.  Matt Reppert (4-1) picked up the win, allowing two runs while scattering seven hits and striking out six batters in seven innings.

King's travels to DeSales Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader in Center Valley.
