KING'S BASEBALL DOWNS DREW 2-1 BEHIND GIOVANNOLI, GRAVER
MADISON, NJ -- Freshman J.R. Graver drove in the winning run in the eighth
inning and sophomore right-hander Paul Giovannoli threw tossed a
nine-inning six-hitter as the King's College baseball team posted a
2-1 victory over Drew University Friday in Madison, NJ.
With the win, King's improved to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the MAC Freedom
Conference while Drew slipped to 3-7-1 and 0-3.
Trailing 1-0 in the third, the Monarchs tied the score when Jason Seibert
singled and would move to third base on a base hit from Matt Livoy. The
Monarchs would then knot the score at 1-1 when Seibert scored on an
infield grounder by Caleb Calarco.
The game remained tied until the eighth inning when Mike Venarchick
tripled, then scored on a one-out single from Graver.
Giovannoli then put the game away when he retired the final six Drew
batters in order. The Monarch hurler was outstanding in allowing
just six hits while striking out five batters to pick up the complete game
win. Giovannoli, who threw just 86 pitches in the game, improved to 4-0 on
the year with a 0.30 earned run average.
Livoy was 3-for-5 while Jeremy
Faust and Graver added two hits each for the Monarchs.
The Monarchs are slated to host Drew in a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader Saturday
at Betzler Fields.
