KING'S BASEBALL OPENS SEASON WITH SWEEP OF PSU-ALTOONA
PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA --
The King's College baseball team made its 2005 season debut in Port
Charlotte Fla. with a doubleheader sweep of Penn State Altoona on Sunday.
King's won the first game 5-1, then rallied to take the nightcap 7-5.
In the opener, sophomore hurler Paul Giovannoli tossed a complete
seven-inning three hitter with three strikeouts to pick up the win. Matt
Livoy was 3-for-4 with a two-run double. Caleb Calarco went 2-for-4
with a run and RBI; Jeremy Faust was 2-for-3 with a run; Nick Sorino was
2-for-4 while Nick Speakman went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
In the second game, King's trailed 5-3 when Livoy belted a two-run home
run in the fifth to knot the score. In the sixth inning, King's would
score the game-winning runs when Mike Venarchick ripped a two-run
triple.
Jason Siebert went 2-for-3 with three runs and a triple; Sorino was
2-for-2 and scored two runs; while Robb Medlock was 2-for-3 with a double
and an RBI. Kyle Ehlis picked up the win with three innings of scoreless
relief for the Monarchs.
