KING’S BASEBALL FALLS TO DVC TO END PLAYOFF RUN

QUAKERTOWN – Mark Roth went 3-for-4 with three RBI while Mick Bigwood pitched a complete game four-hitter as Delaware Valley College posted a 9-1 victory over King’s College in the loser’s bracket of the Freedom Conference playoffs.

With the win, Delaware Valley (25-12) remained alive in the double-elimination event while King’s (19-18-1) saw its first playoff season since 1996 come to an end.

Delaware Valley scored a run in the first inning, then assumed command in the second by scoring four more runs. Bill Cahill, Mark Roth, and Brandon McCabe had RBI singles while Justin Hoban was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in another run.    Bigwood struck out four batters while waking three in pitching all nine innings.

Geoff Ashton led King’s with a 2-for-4 effort while Nick Sorino and Rib Medlock added the other Monarch hits.  Chris Persak took the loss for King’s, lasting one and two-thirds inning and allowing five runs on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts.  Paul Bankit pitched the final six and one-third innings, allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

Despite the loss, King’s concluded its best season in eight years the Monarchs graduate just three seniors – captains Charlie Jenkins, Matt Loringer, and Persak who were all key figures on the 2004 squad.
