KING’S BASEBALL DROPS MAC FREEDOM TOURNEY OPENER TO DESALES

QUAKERTOWN – Matt Reppert tossed a complete-game six hitter to lead third-seeded DeSales University to a 6-0 victory over second-seeded King’s College in the opening round of the MAC Freedom Conference playoffs Friday at Quakertown Memorial Park, Quakertown.

With the loss, King’s slips into the loser’s bracket of the double-elimination event where the Monarchs will now face Delaware Valley to remain alive.  King’s fell to 19-17-1 with the loss, while DeSales improved to 24-12.

DeSales scored all the runs it would need with two in the second frame.  Ian Hauze singled, followed by an RBI double from Mike Cohan. Kyle Hoffman then delivered an RBI single to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

Hoffman was 3-for-4 to pace DeSales while Peters and Dan Fratantoro added two hits each. Nolan Nieman chipped in with a two-run double.  Reppert improved to 5-1 on the year, scattering six hits and striking out six batters in posting the nine-inning victory.

No King’s player had more than one hit as Nick Sorino posted the Monarchs lone extra base hit with a first inning double.  Matt Loringer (6-4)  took the loss, allowing all six runs on 12 hits while striking out two batters and walking two.

King’s and Delaware Valley (24-12) will meet at 11:0 a.m.
