KING'S BASEBALL TEAM POSTS IMPORTANT
11-3 WIN OVER FDU-FLORHAM
MADISON, NJ - The King's College
baseball team took an important step forward in its quest to qualify for
the MAC Freedom Conference playoffs as the Monarchs posted a 11-3 victory
over host FDU-Florham Saturday in Madison, NJ.
With the win, King's improved to
14-13-1 overall and 8-5 in the Freedom Conference. FDU slipped to 18-7 and
7-5 in conference play.
FDU led 1-0 entering the fifth inning
when Dan Buckley and Vince Budzyn drew back-to-back one-out walks for the
Monarchs. After a passed ball advanced both runners, Jason Seibert lofted
a sacrifice fly to bring home Buckley to tie the score. King's then took
advantage of two FDU errors to take a 4-1 lead before Josh Faust delivered
an RBI single to extend the Monarch advantage.
FDU would cut the lead to 5-2 with a
run in the seventh, but King's countered with a six-run assault in the top
of the ninth inning. Jeremy Faust and Geoff Ashton would single and Bill
Drazdowski walked to load the bases with two out. Seibert would deliver a
two-run single to up the lead to 7-2. After a two-run single from Nick
Sorino drove in Drazdowski and Seibert, Charlie Jenkins followed with a
two-run home run to give the Monarchs an 11-2 lead.
Sorino topped the Monarchs with a
2-for-5 showing with two RBI and scored a pair of runs. Freshman hurler
Paul Bankit picked up the complete-game pitching win, scattering 11 hits
and striking out three batters.
King's will host FDU in a crucial
doubleheader today at 1:00 p.m. at Betzler Fields.
