KING'S BASEBALL DROPS TWO TO ONEONTA
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College
baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Oneonta State
University in non-conference action Thursday at Betzler Fields.
Oneonta won the first game 6-5 before
capturing the nightcap 5-0. King's fell to 10-9-1 on the year while the
Red Dragons improved to 14-7.
In the first game, Mike Venarchick led
King's offensively with a 3-for-3 showing. Adam Tkaczyk was 1-for-2 with a
three-run double in the fifth inning. Charlie Jenkins was 2-for-4 with an
RBI. Matt Loringer (2-3) took the complete-game loss for King's, allowing
11 hits and six runs, five which were earned, while striking out three
batters.
In the nightcap Oneonta scored what
proved to be the game winning runs with a four-run second inning thanks to
a Monarch fielding error. Red Dragon pitcher Mike Shellinger limited
King's to just three hits while striking out seven batters.
Nick Sorino led the Monarchs with a
pair of singles while Jenkins added a base hit. King's freshman Paul
Bankit (3-1) suffered his first loss of the year, allowing four runs, two
which were earned, in four innings of work.
The Monarchs will be idle until Monday
when King's travels to face Keystone College at 4:00 p.m.
