SCRANTON -- Senior pitcher
Chris Persak registered 13 strikeouts over an eight inning span as the
King's College baseball team posted a 7-3 Freedom Conference victory over
the host University of Scranton Friday at Connell Park.
With the win, King's improved to 8-6-1 and 3-3 in the Freedom Conference
while Scranton fell to 2-14 and 1-3.
King's scored four runs in the first inning when Vince Budzyn led off the
game with a solo home run. Bill Drazdowski walked and moved to second on a
passed ball before scoring on an RBI single from Nick Sorino.
Charlie Jenkins then ripped a two-run home run to give the Monarchs a 4-0
inning.
Scranton wowuld score an unearned runin trhe second inning but KIng's
answered in the third when Seibert walked and scored on a Sorino double.
King's added its final two runs in the fourth when Jeremy Faust reached
base on an error and would later score on a single by Budzyn.
Drazdowski would eventually drive in Budzyn with a single.
Jenkins was 3-for-4 with two RBI while Sorino was 2-for-4
with two RBI. Budzyn finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and score a pair of
runs.
Persak was dominating in allowing just five hits on the day with nine of
his 13 strikeouts coming on called third strikes.
The Monarchs will host Scranton Saturday at 12:00 noon at Betzler Fields.
