KING’S BASEBALL FALLS TO DREW, 6-4
WILKES-BARRE - Joe Henrickson’s third
inning grand slam home run enabled visiting Drew University to post a 3-1
deficit and gain a 6-4 triumph over King’s College Thursday at Betzler
Fields.
With the loss, King’s fell to 7-9
overall and 2-5 in MAC Freedom Conference play. Drew improved to 8-9
overall and 2-1 in conference play.
After scoring a run in the first,
Henrickson’s blast gave the Rangers a 5-0 lead. King’s would answer
with three runs in the bottom half of the third inning when Rich Overman
singled and Ryan Soden reached base on an error. Bill Drazdowski would
reach base on a fielder’s choice, advancing both runners before Overman
would score on another Drew error. Jeremy Sauers then delivered a two-run
single to cut the Ranger lead to 5-3.
Drew added a run in the sixth when
Kevin Dinkel singled and reached second on a Monarch error. Brian Evans
would then come through with an RBI single to push the score to 6-3.
The Monarchs would attempt to rally in
the seventh inning when leadoff pinch hitter Bill Medlock reached base on
an error and Drazdowski was hit by a pitch. King’s senior Chris Rispoli,
however, would ground into a double play as Medlock moved to third base.
Sauers then stroked a two-out single to plate Medlock but Charlie Jenkins
line drive to right field was snagged by Dinkel to end the game.
King’s will host Scranton Friday at
3:00 p.m. at Betzler Fields.
