KING'S BASEBALL TEAM CONCLUDES SPRING
TRIP AT 4-4
HOMESTEAD, FL -- The King's College
baseball team ended its spring trip with a 4-4 record as the Monarchs
split their final two games.
The Monarchs posted a 7-4 win over NAIA
Division II Rochester University of Minnesota in its first contest. King's
then posted a solid showing in a 3-o loss to NCAA Division I Mt St. Mary's
(Md.) in its second contest.
Against Rochester, Nick Sorino led the
way offensively with a 2-for-3 effort including two RBI. Jeremy Sauers and
Jason Melendez were both 2-for-3 with an RBI while Charlie Jenkins was
2-for-3 with two runs. Rob Medlock picked up the win in relief of Monarch
starter Matt Loringer. Medlock pitches two-thirds of scoreless relief to
pick up the victory Loringer was solid in hurling five and one-thirds
innings of six-hit ball with four strikeouts and yielded just two earned
runs.
In a nine inning loss to Mt. St.
Mary's, King's hurler Paul Kapral pitched three innings, allowing three
hits and all three runs, only one of which was earned. Kapral, however,
left the game with a blister as Bill Serafin finished the game with a
strong showing. The King's senior pitched five scoreless innings, allowing
just three hits with four strikeouts. Jenkins was the Monarchs' top hitter
with a 2-for-4 effort while Sorino was 1-for-2.
The Monarchs will return to action
Friday, March 14 when the team opens MAC Freedom Conference play against
defending champion DeSales at 3:00 p.m. The teams will then travel to
DeSales Saturday, March 14 for a 12:00 noon twinbill.
