KING'S BASEBALL SWEPT BY FDU
MADISON, NJ -- The King's College
baseball team dropped both ends of a double header to FDU-Florham in a
Freedom Conference matchup Sunday in Madison, NJ King's lost the first
game 10-0 before suffering a 7-6 setback in the nightcap.
In the opener, FDU held a 1-0 lead
entering the third inning but pushed across five runs thanks to a two-run
triple by Tom Calistri and a two-run double by Mike Piccolo. The Devils
added a run in the fourth inning, then pushed across three runs in the
fifth. Charlie Jenkins and Jeremy Sauers had doubles for King's.
In the night cap, the Monarchs rallied
from a 6-2 deficit with a four-run sixth to tie the score at 6-6. Jason
Melendez doubled followed by a single from Ryan Soden. After an RBI single
by Bill Drazdowski, Chris Rispoli drove home a run with a double.
Drazdowski, however, was thrown out at home on the play for the second out
of the inning. Sauers then delivered a run-scoring single to knot the
score at 6-6.
FDU would counter when Mike Trapani
singled, stole second base, and advanced to third on a Monarch error. Mike
DelVecchio would then loft a sacrifice fly to bring home Trapani with what
would prove to be the game-winning run.
Jeff Wells, Jenkins, Melendez, and
Drazdowski had two hits apiece for King's which fell to 5-6 on the year.
King's will host FDU in the final game
of the team's three-game set at 3:30 p.m. at Betzler Fields.
