KING'S BASEBALL DEFEATS MARYWOOD, 9-4
   
WILKES-BARRE --   The King's College baseball team broke open a 1-1 tie with a five-run fourth inning as the Monarchs posted a 9-4 triumph over visiting Marywood University Tuesday at Betzler Fields.
   
With the win, King's improved to 11-20-1, while the Pacers fell to 15-19.
   
Marywood took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Dennis Hricenak singled  and would later score on a base hit by Josh Smith. King's tied the score with a run in the bottom half of the inning when Chris Rispoli singled  and scored on a double by Jason Melendez.
   
King's would take a 6-1 lead in the decisive fourth inning when Geoff Ashton walked and moved to second on a bunt by Melendez. Dan Buckley would then single before Jon Deroba smacked a two-run double.  Two batters later, Jeremy Sauers and Kyle Newberry stroked consecutive RBI double to push the lead to 5-1. Rispoli would then drive in the Monarchsı fifth run of the inning with a single.
   
Marywood answered with a run in the sixth when Brian Sammon was hit by a pitch then scored on a King's error.  The Monarchs answered immediately when Charlie Jenkins reached base on an error and eventually scored on a two-out single by Andy French.  
King's would take a 9-2 lead with two more runs in the eighth when Kalym DeJesus singled and Bill Reichmann walked. After an infield out advanced both runners, Ashton and Melendez followed consecutive RBI singles to put the game away.
   
The Pacers added two runs in the ninth when Kevin Zaleski and Ryan McCabe had RBI singles.
   
Matt Loringer picked up the pitching win for King's in tossing seven innings and allowing two runs, one which was earned, while striking out three batters. Matt Maziarz took the loss for Marywood in lasting three and two-thirds innings.

Rispoli, Ashton, Melendez, and Newberry had two hits each for the Monarchs Hricenak had three hits for Marywood.
   
King's will travel to face Division II Lock Haven University Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
