KING'S BASEBALL FALLS TO MARYWOOD, 7-6

SCRANTON -- Brian Blaum tripled then scored the eventual game-winning run on a wild pitch in the seventh as Marywood University defeated King's College 7-6 Monday in Scranton.

With the game tied 6-6, Blaum led off the seventh with a triple to the right centerfield gap. Two pitches later, Blaum would score on Monarch hurler Ryan Kropa's errant offering with would prove to be the game-winning run.

With the loss, the Monarchs fall to 8-15-1 while Marywood improved to 9-12.

King's trailed 3-1 enter the fourth inning Kalym DeJesus walked and Jeremy Sauers was hit by a pitch. After a single by Kyle Newberry loaded the bases, DeJesus scored on a wild pitch. Newberry would later scored on a fielder's choice before Dan Buckley reached base on a fielderšs choice and eventually scored on a bases-loaded walk. King's took a 6-4 lead in the fifth when Jason Melendez walked and Jon Deroba was hit by a pitch. After a sacrifice bunt by Charlie Jenkins advanced the runners, Sauers tripled in two runs and would then score himself on a wild pitch.

Marywood added run in the fifth when Blaum hit his first triple of the day and scored on an infield grounder to cut the Monarchs lead to 6-5. The Pacers knotted the score with a run in the sixth when Dan Gumble singled scored on an RBI double by Ryan Federico, setting up the decisive seventh inning.

Sauers led King's with a 2-for-3 effort while Kyle Newberry and Melendez were both 2-for-4. Marywood was led by Blaum who posted two doubles and scored a pair of runs while Federico, Chris McHugh, and A.J. Thompson had two hits apiece for the Pacers.

The Monarchs will be idle until Friday when King's hosts cross-town rival Wilkes University at 3:00 p.m. in a nine-inning single game at Betzler Fields. The two teams will then meet again in a doubleheader Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Ralston Field, Kingston.
