KING'S BASEBALL DROPS TWINBILL TO
FDU-MADISON
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College
baseball team dropped a MAC Freedom Conference
doubleheader to FDU-Madison Sunday at Betzler Fields, Wilkes-Barre.
The Monarchs lost the opening game 4-1, while falling in the
nightcap 11-5.
In the first game, FDU pushed across
three runs in the third inning on an RBI
single by Mike DelVecchio, an infield
grounder off the bat of Mike Piccolo, and
another run scoring single by Shawn Eickhorst. The Devils extended the
lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning when
Piccolo doubled and scored on a single by
Eickhorst. King's scored
its lone run in the sixth inning when Jon Deroba walked and scored
on a base hot by Jeremy Sauers. DelVecchio and Ralph Torrillo were
both 2-for-3 at the plate while
Eickhorst was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Devil hurler
Chris Bartz tossed a two-hitter, striking out nine Monarch batter
while walking three.
In the nightcap, FDU put the game away early with four runs in the second
inning and five runs in the third. Mike
Trapani led the assault with a 4-for-5
showing with two doubles and two RBI. Sean O'Brien went 3-for-3 with a
double and two RBI, while Tom Calistri
was 2-for-4.
The Monarchs were paced by Chris
Rispoli was 3-for-4, while Kyle Newberry was
2-for-3. Sauers went 2-for-4 with a
two-run home run.
King's (4-11-1) will travel to FDU on
Monday to complete their MAC Freedom three-game
set with the Devils.
