KING'S BASEBALL DEFEATS MISERICORDIA, 4-0
WILKES-BARRE - Matt Loringer and Gary McDonald combined for a
three-hitter as the King's College baseball team posted a 4-0 victory over
College Misericordia Tuesday at Betzler Fields.
King's took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when freshman Jeremy Sauers
doubles and scored on a single by Jeff Ashton. The Monarchs added
three unearned runs in the fourth inning when Sauers was hit by a
pitch and advanced on a single by Kyle Newberry. Sauers would then score
on an infield error before Jason Melendez brought in Newberry with an
infield grounder. Andy French then came through with a run-scoring single
to give King's a 4-0 lead.
Misericordia would attempt rally in the ninth Ray Zawiska and Justin
Fowler led off the innings two of the Cougars three hits, but McDonald
would retire the next three batters to secure the Monarch victory.
Loringer pitched five innings and allowed just a first inning single
before giving way to McDonald in the sixth inning. The Monarch
rookie would pitch the remaining four innings and allowed just one base
runner until the ninth.
Albie Biggs took the loss for the Cougars, pitching three innings and
allowing two hits and one run.
With the win, King's improved to 4-9-1 while the Cougars slipped to 7-4.
The Monarchs return to action Friday when King's travels to Bethlehem to
face Division I Lehigh University at 3:00 p.m.
