KING'S BASEBALL SWEPT BY DESALES
WILKES-BARRE The King's College baseball team dropped both ends of a
doubleheader to defending MAC Freedom Conference champion DeSales
University Saturday at Betzler Fields. King's lost the first game
4-2 in eight innings while dropping the nightcap 15-3.
In the opener, Dan Frantantoro stroked a one-out single in the eighth
inning and scored on a double by Julio Acosta. Kyle Hoffman then followed
with a run-scoring single to put the Bulldogs ahead 4-2. In Kingšs final
at-bat, Ryan Lindley, set the Monarchs down in order to pick up the
pitching decision.
Jon Deroba was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Kingšs while Jeremy Sauers was
1-for-4 with an RBI.
In the nightcap, DeSales took a 6-0 lead in the second inning keyed by a
two-run triple by Kevin Coyle. The Monarchs answered with three runs
in their half of the inning on an RBI doubles by Chris Rispoli and Jason
Melendez. After DeSales scored one run in each of the fourth and
fifth innings to build a 8-3 lead, the Bulldogs exploded with a seven-run
fifth inning to put the game away, Acosta drilled a three-run home run to
ignite the attack.
With the sweep, Kingšs fell to 2-8-1, while DeSales improved to 6-4.
