KING'S BASEBALL SWEPT AT FDU
MADISON, NJ -- The King's College baseball
team dropped a pair of close games to FDU-Florham in a Freedom
Conference doubleheader Saturday in Madison, NJ. FDU won the first
game 1-0 before taking the nightcap 6-4.
With the sweep, King's slipped to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in Freedom
Conference play. FDU improved to 8-7 and 3-2 in league games.
In the opener, the Monarchs received an outstanding pitching effort
from senior Matt Livoy but were held to just four base hits in the
contest. Livoy pitched a complete-game, seven-inning two-hitter,
striking out five batters in the process. J.R. Graver, Pat McGlynn,
Gracjan Kraszewski, and Matt Unger posted the Monarchs four base
In the nightcap, the Monarchs would muster all four runs in the
fourth inning. Eric Matula, Phil Moskowitz, and Graver would all
single before Jon Venarchick drilled a grand slam home run over the
right field fence. But that was all the offense the Monarchs would
generate as FDU would take a 6-4 lead in the bottom half of the
fourth inning and kept the Monarchs off the board over the final
Graver, Livoy, Venarchick, and Matula all posted two base hits while
McGlynn added a double. Dan Jenkins took the loss for King's,
allowing six earned runs in three and two thirds innings. John
McNichol and Aaron Deroba combined to pitch the final two and
one-third innings of shutout relief.
King's and FDU will complete their three-game series Sunday at 1:00
p.m. at Betzler Fields.
