MADISON, NJ -- The King's College baseball team dropped a pair of close games to FDU-Florham in a Freedom Conference doubleheader Saturday in Madison, NJ. FDU won the first game 1-0 before taking the nightcap 6-4.

With the sweep, King's slipped to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in Freedom Conference play. FDU improved to 8-7 and 3-2 in league games.

In the opener, the Monarchs received an outstanding pitching effort from senior Matt Livoy but were held to just four base hits in the contest. Livoy pitched a complete-game, seven-inning two-hitter, striking out five batters in the process. J.R. Graver, Pat McGlynn, Gracjan Kraszewski, and Matt Unger posted the Monarchs four base hits.

In the nightcap, the Monarchs would muster all four runs in the fourth inning. Eric Matula, Phil Moskowitz, and Graver would all single before Jon Venarchick drilled a grand slam home run over the right field fence. But that was all the offense the Monarchs would generate as FDU would take a 6-4 lead in the bottom half of the fourth inning and kept the Monarchs off the board over the final three innings.

Graver, Livoy, Venarchick, and Matula all posted two base hits while McGlynn added a double. Dan Jenkins took the loss for King's, allowing six earned runs in three and two thirds innings. John McNichol and Aaron Deroba combined to pitch the final two and one-third innings of shutout relief.

King's and FDU will complete their three-game series Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Betzler Fields.
