KING'S CROSS COUNTRY TAKES ON TOUGH COMPETITION
WILKES-BARRE -- The Men's and Women's Cross country
teams were on the road this weekend, taking on tough competition at the
Husky Invitational in Bloomsburg, PA.
In the Men's event, an 8,000 meter race, freshman
Jeff Cort led the Monarchs, finishing in 34th place with a time of
30:56, averaging 6:13 per mile. Two minutes later, the rest of the
Monarchs came in one group. Seniors Patrick Sammon and Vincent Pecora
came in 41st and 43rd respectively.
Sophomores Ryan Glenn and Daniel Byrne finished
were just under thirty seconds apart from each other coming across the
finish line. Glenn finished in a time of 32:41, while Byrne posted a
34:28 finish. Rounding out the Monarchs scoring was junior Jeff Falcone,
who finished in a time of 34:55, earning him 50th place.
On the Women's side, sophomore Victoria Posatko
finished the 6,000 meter race in 24:50. She was just the eighth
competetor across the line. Posatko averaged a 6:39 mile time. In the
middle of the pack, Kelley Wiedwald and Heather Elphick came in 22nd and
24th place. Wiedwald finished in a time of 26:34, and Elphick crossed
the line at 26:45. Freshman Shannon McGowan came in 41st place in a time
of 29:08. Hannah Eckles was the fifth scorer for King's, finishing in a
time of 33:33.
The Running Monarchs are back in action on
September 20th when they race at the Misericordia University
Invitational. The gun is set to go off at 11:00am.
