KOPEC SETS COURSE RECORD AS MONARCH X.C. TEAM WINS
GWYNEDD-MERCY INVITATIONAL
WILKES-BARRE -- Junior
Ed Kopec (left) set a course record
with a to lead the King's College men's cross country team to the team
championship at the Gwynedd-Mercy College Invitational Saturday in
Gwynedd Valley. King's women's team finished third in the event.
Kopec posted a record-setting time of 29:13.47 to win the event by 20.14
over runner-up Kevin Bunt of host Gwynedd-Mercy. King's Justin Winters
was third overall with a time of 29:50.71 while Monarch teammate Matt
hall was fifth with a 30:12.85. Other King's runners contributing
to the victory included Derek Call, Matt Washo, David Davis, Vincent
Pecora, and David Krupski.
The Monarchs won the men's title with a score of 39.2, edging out
Gwynedd-Mercy which posted a 39.3.
The Lady Monarchs were led by Maria DeMuro who was fourth overall with a
time of 21:29.81. Sophomore Kelley Weidwald finished a solid
seventh at 22:25.45 despite running with an ankle injury suffered on
Thursday that nearly kept the Lady Monarch standout from competing.
Other King's runners aiding the Lady Monarch cause were Alison Taroli,
Kaitlyn Musto, and Julie Dural.
Note: Due to technical difficulties at Gwynedd-Mercy
College, complete results were not available.
