KING'S KOPEC FOURTH AT MAC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

HUNTINGDON -- King's College sophomore Ed Kopec, a Wyoming Valley West product, turned in a brilliant performance as the Monarchs sophomore placed fourth at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships Saturday at Juniata College, Huntingdon.

Kopec completed the 8k run in 26:08.93 to earn first-team MAC All-Star honors. Kopec trailed only MAC champion Macaria Yuot of Widener (25:36.85), Tyson Evensen of Elizabethtown (26:01.65) and Widener's Joe Francisco (26:07.36).

As a team, King's finished eighth in the 12-team field, which included 134 runners.

Other top King's men's runners included Derek Call who was 53rd with a 28:49.39. Justin Winters was 61st at 29:17.11 while Matt Hall finished 68th with a time of 29:34.55. Matt Washo was 92nd at 30:40.95 while Robert Hare was 113th with a 32:53.10. Vincent Pecora was 118th at 33:38.64; David Davis finished 126th at 35:42.33; while Ed Kilanowski was 36:06.08.

On the women's side, freshman Kelley Wiedwald was 19th in the field of 138 female runners with a time of 24:57.80. With her finish, Wiedwald received second-team All-MAC honors.

Maria DeMuro was 67th at 27:24.93 while Allison Taroli finished 91st at 28:53.26. Shauna Crabb was 107th at 29:47.05 while Christina Curcio finished 127th with a 32:24.10. The Lady Monarchs finished 12th in the 14-team event.
